Why we started
Story
Most coffee arrives with a country and a grade. Behind that word is a person who picked it, a plot with a real shape, and a price agreed without them in the room. We exist to close that gap. Not with a story on a bag, but with a record anyone can check.

Our mission
Make the record ordinary, not exceptional
Southeast Asia is where we live and where we buy. It is also the thinnest part of most specialty menus, because the paperwork is hard and the lots are small. We made those two things our job instead of our excuse.
We buy direct from smallholder groups. We cup everything before we commit. We publish what we know before anyone asks. Where we do not know yet, the record says so.
Our test is simple. Could the farmer read our page about their coffee and recognise it? If not, we are not finished.

The people we work with
We do not run estates. Every lot comes from a smallholder group, usually from a handful of plots inside it. That is why volumes are small, and why we build the record at the farm rather than at the port.

Compliance
The paperwork is part of the product
The EU deforestation rules ask for the plot location and who farmed it. We record both at purchase, rather than piecing them together later from memory and invoices.
As it stands, EUDR applies from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, and from 30 June 2027 for small ones. These dates have moved before. Please read the current text against your own obligations.
We hold no third party certification on the coffee itself. Not because it is worthless. Because a direct relationship and a published record is what we can stand behind. A certificate on a lot we could not trace would be the wrong kind of comfort. The credentials we do hold are personal, and they are listed below.

Working with regional
authorities
Since January 2025
Buying direct from smallholders in Indonesia is more than a commercial deal. It runs through the district offices that hold the land records, the farm extension services, and the cooperatives farmers work with. Since January 2025 we have done this formally.
It is slower than going through an exporter. It is also why the plot boundaries in our record are real. When a district office knows what we are mapping and why, both sides recognise the map we publish.

Joining the
farming program
Individual farmers & farming collectives
Most of the work happens before any coffee is bought. Farmers join one at a time. We walk the plot, fly it, agree what gets recorded, and put the terms in writing before a single kilo moves.
We ask for access and honesty. The real plot boundary, the real yield, the process as it happened. In return they get a published record with their name on it, a price agreed with them in the room, and honest news about what buyers are ordering.
Small holdings are the model, not a compromise. A collective can join as one member with several plots. Each plot keeps its own boundary and its own record.

Our credentials
Held by people, not printed on a lot
All three are Coffee Quality Institute credentials. They are why our scoresheets mean something outside this room. A Q grade is a calibrated score, not an opinion. Q processing lets us talk through a drying decision with the person making it, not after the fact. The lecturer authorisation means we can teach it, not just ask for it.
They certify people, not coffee. Nothing on a Seedlot bag is certified by anyone. The record is the claim, and you can check it.
Q Arabica Grader
Certified by the Coffee Quality Institute to score specialty arabica on the standard 100 point system. The score on every lot page comes off this table.
Q Processing Generalist
Fermentation and drying treated as things you control, not weather you accept. Harvest through to green bean. It is what we bring to a mill trying something new.
CQI Lecturer · Post-Harvest Processing
Authorised by CQI to teach and certify post harvest processing. Our partner mills get the same course, not a version of it.
Certificates are on file and shown on request. The badges are CQI's own, used as a credential holder.
